Raising the Rear Wheels Off the Floor

This usually occurs when a player has removed both hands off the rear wheels and raises the rear wheels from the floor simultaneously and:

 

 

 

 

 

  • Reaches forward for the ball on the floor
  • Makes contact with another player from his own team or the opponent's team
  • Raises the wheelchair to shoot, rebound, pass the ball, attempt to secure a pass from a team member or attempt to block a shot or pass from an opponent.
  • Jumps the wheelchair laterally e.g. to separate from a legal screen or an opponent in a legal guarding position
  • Is contesting a jump-ball at the beginning of the first period

It is legal to raise both the rear wheels off the floor, when the player is holding one or both rear wheels with either one or two hands.

It is a lifting foul is charged to on a player attempting to shoot, pass or receive, rebounding, blocking, contesting a jump-ball, jumping the wheelchair laterally.

It is a personal foul when contacting an opponent where the official deems is a disadvantage for the opponent.

 It is a violation when a player leans forward to retrieve the ball from the floor with or without contact with another player.
