With the Under 13 interleague carnival this coming Sunday, let’s have a look at how some of the SMJFL’s interleague representatives performed in Round 8:
- East Malvern Gold is undefeated and two games clear on top of the Under 13 Division 1 ladder, so it’s no surprise they have a whopping nine representatives across the two interleague teams. Isaac Morrisby kicked a bag of seven in their big win on Sunday to feature in the best, while interleague teammates Ethan Phillips, Angus Styles and Will Sutherland also featured prominently.
- Hampton and Mt Waverley played out a tight one, with Hampton keeping their opponents scoreless in the final term to ensure an 18-point victory. Max Lohan was best-on and popped a goal through for good measure, while Finn Campigli was also impressive with two snags. Both boys will be donning the SMJFL colours this Sunday.
- Mordialloc-Braeside and Ormond played with the desperation you’d expect of teams occupying the last two spots on the division ladder. Ormond held their opponents at bay with slender leads in the second and third quarters, but Mordi-Brae stormed home in the last quarter to record a much-needed 17-point win. Interleague rep Julian Howard pocketed two goals for the victors.
- East Sandringham and Beaumaris Sharks decided second spot on the ladder in a dour 10-point battle. The result went East Sandy’s way as they remarkably held Beaumaris scoreless after half time. Charles Constable will be looking to produce another best-on-ground performance at the interleague carnival, while Nathan Murphy wouldn’t mind another three goals either. Sam Loewe also starred for Sandy. Beauy’s Edward Newman and Will Burmeister put in brave efforts in defeat and should also represent the league well.
- Cheltenham’s only interleaguer Sam Roberts gave a good account of himself in his team’s strong win over Dingley Black in Under 13 Division 2. Mason Goldin was in the best for Dingley, but will clearly be hoping for better team success for the SMJFL this Sunday.
- Just three goals were kicked between St Kilda City and St Peters on the weekend, and just three second-half behinds were enough for the Saints to hold on by nine points. Harry Wardlaw showed why he’s an interleague rep as St Peters’ best player in the defeat.
- Great effort by Jayce Morgan to be Bentleigh’s sole interleague representative from Under 13 Division 3. Jayce was instrumental in his team’s 22-point win over Beaumaris Great Whites with three cracking goals.
- Noah Answerth also snagged a bag, kicking four majors in Caulfield’s big win over Waverley Park. More of the same on Sunday thanks Noah...
- Finally, a couple of reps from Under 13 Division 4: James Mangoni and Adam Schache played key parts in Dingley Red’s victory on the weekend. Keep up the good work, fellas.
To all the boys representing our league at Bulleen Park this Sunday, good luck from everyone at the SMJFL!
