Message from Executive Officer

Hi All,
I hope you are all looking forward to resuming the 2018 Season 1 next week (Juniors and League) - for some it was a well earned and necessary break during this long season.  It has been a great opportunity for some to attend coaching clinics, to do some work on the stadium and to start organising the next competition which will commence on 15th October.
We are VERY excited to be the second stadium/association in Australia to launch the Glory League platform (more information below) and thank the local sponsors who have come on board to assist DBA reach the next level in player and referee development.
We still have a lot to look forward to with the Australian School Sports to be held in August, a visit from some teams from New Caledonia, finals in September, Cyclones competing in U14 Australian Club Championships and then new season.
Please read on in the newsletter to get up to date with what is happening around the DBA.
I would also like to publicly acknowledge the last day of working for DBA for Lachlan Shipway.  Lachie is heading off to the USA to study and play.  We will definitely miss him about the place but wish him the best of luck!
Cheers
Kerri
About Glory League

Glory League, is a fully automated cost-effective video engagement system that’s taking amateur basketball to a whole new level.

Glory League strives to enhance the basketball experience for players, coaches, referees, supporters and administrators by providing a unique, high-quality product, backed by the best customer service possible.

How Glory League works

Once the Glory League platform is installed, including mounting a video camera above the court to capture the action, an iPad app scores each game and starts the recording. The automated camera zooms in and follows the game, just like a professional camera operator.  Each point scored is cut into a highlight video for the player involved.  Every player, coach, parent or supporter can be emailed a link to the game video, player highlights and statistics.  Videos are shared via email or social media, allowing users to relive their favourite moments again and again.

What can users do on the Glory League Player Portal?

• Watch full game videos (of games they are involved in)
• View their personal, team and game highlights
• Tag stats – add in assists, rebounds, blocks, steals etc
• Edit and create new highlight videos
• Review game stats
• Check leaderboards
• Share highlights on social media (Facebook, Twitter etc)
• Download videos.

Engage families and supporters
One of the best things about Glory League is that family members and supporters (anywhere in the world!) can view and share in the basketball experience. This is truly valuable for those who can’t be at the game or who want to relive special moments again and again.

Family members and supporters can be added to a team list and automatically emailed after each game. Note that this usage is monitored and approved by the association, ensuring that only legitimate people have access to games.

Alternatively, users can simply forward on their game video emails and download and/or share videos with their own network.

Privacy and safety features
Glory League has many systems and features that support privacy and safety, including:
• A two-step waiver system
• Team and game privacy setting – only participants associated with a team or game have access to the full game video content as distributed by Glory League.

An example: Unless someone is involved in a game they cannot watch a game video
• Current video footage does not allow recognition of players with a high level of accuracy
• Removal or amendment of names – there is an option to remove a player’s name from the game record or amend the name to just initials
• Basketball associations can administer different levels of rules for their leagues:
o Turn off Social Media and downloading
o Blacklisting any individuals – this means no games featuring a blacklisted player will be recorded
• Custom support for unique situations – Glory League can adapt and implement new measures faced by associations if required.

Basketball associations introducing Glory League are provided with privacy and content ownership waivers to add to their existing terms and conditions of participation.

Saturday October 6th  - Spread the word and invite old players, coaches, referees and scorers to join us for a night of Basketball Celebrations with DBA 70th Birthday celebrations.  More details to follow inthe next few weeks.

The Season Changes are in line with other sports and other Basketball Associations in Australia.
It enables people to play basketball in line with other sports or select to play just one season.
It makes it more affordable for people who may only want to play one season.
It enables new members to join basketball after they complete other sports seasons (ie September and April)
The Long season is a "once off" from Feb to Sept and will then be Sept to April and April to September.
The Christmas break in 2018 is a break for ALL! Because it is during the season there is no additional work for club volunteers over this break and enables coaches, administrators and club volunteers to have a real break.

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
