Message from Executive Officer

After the AGM this week, there has been a few changes to the Board of Darwin Basketball Association.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank the outgoing Chair - Craig Trezise for his work and dedication in this volunteer position for the past 2 years.  Craig has no children playing basketball and offered his time and business acumen to the organisation.  There have been many positive changes to the DBA in the past 2 years, which is a true indication of Craig's business acumen.  Craig will be sorely missed in this role but I have every confidence the new Board will continue in this positive manner.
DBA BOARD MEMBERS
Congratulations to the new Board members Ben Streeter and Chris Smith who join the re-elected Board members, Sarah Rummery and Emanuel Siriotis, and current Board Gary Shipway and Chris Sargent.  The election of Board members took place at the DBA AGM on Sunday 7th May.  These people volunteer their time to assist in improving your Association. Look forward to another successful 12 months.
DBA would like to congratulate John Sealy and Fred Adams on their recent awarding of Life Membership to the DBA.

We are a Good Sports club

Sporting clubs such as ours play a significant role in the community and have a responsibility to our members and their families. We have chosen to join over 7000 clubs across Australia taking part in the Good Sports program. Through Good Sports we are committed to managing alcohol responsibly and ensuring smoke free areas, which we believe will help us to provide a healthy, safe and family friendly environment.  Together, we are helping inspire a healthier sporting nation.

DBA UNIFORM RULES
Players MUST tuck their singlet in before taking the court and make every attempt to keep it tucked in shorts.  Not only is this a safety issue, it also interferes with game play if an opponent can grab your shirt!
Long hair must not obliterate the singlet number (this makes it very hard to referee or score accurately).  Please ensure hair is up styled (bun).  Hair can NOT be worn in plaits as this can be dangerous to opponents.

DARWIN JUNIOR SIGNS TO US COLLEGE
Auburn, ME - Freddy Webb, a 6'0" point guard from the Darwin Northern Territory, has become the third Australian young man to commit to CM to play basketball. He follows in the footsteps of Pietro Badalassi and Cam Duncan to make the trek across the ocean. Webb is a heady contributor who brings an impressive basketball resume to CM.

According to CM Men's Coach, Dave Gonyea, "Freddy is a great kid who fit in nicely when he visited a few weeks ago.  By the time he left 3 days later, it was like he had been here the whole time.  He was able to get in the gym and play with the guys.  He held his own and quickly made friends.  Oh course, it doesn't hurt he is following in the footsteps of two fantastic Aussie's before him.  I suspect he will continue the tradition of becoming a positive influence on our team.  We are very excited he is becoming a Mustang!"

That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand.
